Patagonia’s philosopher Vincent Stanley explains why we need a sense of both patience and urgency to tackle the world’s biggest environmental problems. His three-part plan, based on livable cities, regenerative organic agriculture and spaces for species restoration constitutes a strategy for bottom-up change, paving the way for a bio-regional approach to globalization.

Chile’s Salar de Atacama is the country largest salt flat, and the world’s largest lithium brine deposit – an environment whose health is threatened by the green economy.
A conversation with Diego Piacentini, Bill Emmott and Federico Fubini.

Italy will hold its general election on September 25th, about eight months early. Based on current polls, the front-runner to succeed Mario Draghi is the far-right Giorgia Meloni

By Bill Emmott

In the end, “Super Mario” was simply cold-shouldered out of Palazzo Chigi by the party leaders who had reluctantly put him there nearly 18 months ago. Hugely respected by other governments in the European Union and beyond, and popular with Italians, Mario Draghi is both resented and disliked by many of the party leaders who had formed his “national unity” coalition. He is resented because he, like previous technocrat Italian prime ministers, was only put into the prime minister’s role thanks to their own failure to form a solid governing coalition. He is disliked because he is naturally aloof and has little time for political vanities and even less for political games. Yet his government did not really fall because he is disliked, since that has been true throughout. It fell because a general election was due soon anyway and because those who are leading in the opinion polls presumably calculated that it was better to have the vote soon before anything came along to dent their prospects of power.

Valdagno is an Italian milltown located in the northwestern Venice region. It is located in the middle of a valley, surrounded by woods and close to the Dolomitic Alps. During the 19th and the 20th century, it has been the epicenter of an industrial economic development, thanks to the local establishment of the Marzotto wool mill.

With an highly-educated population of 26,000 inhabitants, Valdagno is looking for a new season of social and economic development, that again might be enabled by the opportunities of its nature.
